"The cult of individuality and personality, which promotes painters and poets only to promote itself, is really a business. The greater the 'genius' of the personage, the greater the profit"
- George Grosz
German painter and drawer - George Grosz evinced a tendency to violence and macabre since early childhood. He loved to read a lot about murderers, suicides, executions. World War 1 in which he took part as a soldier, changed him completely and caused nervous breakdown. When he revovered, he started to create art with deeper message.
In his art, George aimed to criticise nationalists, press, clergy, army and politicians.
